Taking Lanka around the world via Mobitel broadband

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel has yet again unveiled an innovation that will change the landscape of our nation. Tying up with Lanka TV Neth, Mobitel, Sri Lanka's National Mobile Service Provider will enhance and facilitate a new generation of Television viewing.

Lanka TV Neth is a popular Digital TV channel based in Greece which will now be powered from Sri Lanka by Mobitel's Broadband service, thereby ensuring top quality and seamless broadcasts for the enjoyment of all.

This service covers over two million Sri Lankans spread out among 158 countries and acts as a little taste of home to these expatriates.

A pilot run was conducted during August 2009, telecasting the 'Dalada Perahera', which received much acclaim and to the enjoyment of all those who witnessed it via streaming.

The main audience that is being catered to is the Sri Lanka expatriates working in the Middle Eastern and European countries who are thirsty for a little taste of home.

For the first time in Sri Lanka live programmes are uploaded from site to earth station by using Mobitel's mobile broadband service. Later it will be broadcast to televisions and computers all around the world through the satellite technology.

Leisha De Silva Chandrasena, Chairperson of Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, said, 'We are sure that our involvement will ensure that the Sri Lankan expatriates will be able to view and enjoy the programs coming from Sri Lanka through Digital TV and web.

This proves our widest coverage and superior uplink quality of 3.5 G network which enables us to take Sri Lanka around the world'.

Chairperson of Lanka TV Neth, Malie Hettiarachchi said, 'We are proud and happy to be able to bring our expatriates a certain level of satisfaction and quell a bit of their homesickness by broadcasting original Sri Lankan Programs from our offices in Sri Lanka.

Over 90% of the programming will come out of our studios in Polhengoda and will be created by the cream of Sri Lanka's Television industry.

We are truly happy that we were able to partner with Mobitel as we are sure that their involvement will let our viewers experience the channel seamlessly and in the highest quality.
