ANCL acquires CTP system

Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) acquired two state-of-the-art Computer to Plate (CTP) systems from Hayleys Consumer Products Limited (HCPL).

The Head Pre Press (Technology and Systems) Ousman Jayah (right) shows the first plate output of the CTP machine at the commissioning of CTP machines at ANCL to Chairman and Managing Director, ANCL, Bandula Padmakumara. Director Operations ANCL, Upul Dissanayake, Director/Chief Operating Officer HCPL, Jude Silva and other representatives of ANCL and HCPL are also in the picture.

The new machines which eliminate graphic art image setter films from the printing process are from Krause of Germany, whose local agent HCPL was successful in securing this order.

The two CTP systems with on-line processors will reduce costs, improve quality and enhance speed in ANCL's printing process, the company said.

The Krause LS Performance System has the highest rating for reliability in fully automatic CTP production. The total investment by ANCL in these units was Rs. 48 million.

Commenting Selveratnam Nimal, Business Unit Head for Imaging and Information at HCPL said: "Besides the significant saving in printing costs ANCL will also gain from the quality of the printed product because the new CTP system enhances the colour gamut of newsprint."

CTP avoids potential losses in quality that may occur during film processing, including scratches in the film, and variations in the exposure," he explained.

These machines are the first CTP Violet platesetter machines installed in the newspaper industry in Sri Lanka.

The high value Krause platesetting system Juwel-Optics guarantees excellent quality for newspaper and semi-commercial applications.

The system's 'Smart' n' 'Easy' facility is a PDF workflow, which controls the complete production, starting at the PDF file handling to the point of exposing. With up to 200 exposed images per hour, two Smart' n' Easy Jets can be operated at the same time at maximum speed.

ANCL Chairman Bandula Padmakumara commissioned this machine on December 9, 2009 in the presence of HCPL representatives.

A member of the Superbrand Hayleys conglomerate, Hayleys Consumer is the sole representative in Sri Lanka for several leading international brands including Philips Consumer and Professional lighting, Fujifilm, P&G and Gillette.
