Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R. Sampanthan said the TNA has decided to support Sarath Fonseka as he had agreed with the TNA’s conditions to re-merge the Northern and the Eastern Province dismantling high security zones and giving a permanent solution to the Tamil people.

He said that similar conditions were presented to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, “We decided not to support President Rajapaksa for the upcoming presidential election since he did not show a good response to our conditions, he said.

The Uthayan newspaper in Jaffna published a document containing a set of promises signed by Sarath Fonseka and the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe with the TNA led by R. Sambanthan.

Meanwhile, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said that the TNA had offered its support to Sarath Fonseka since the TNA agreed with Fonseka’s policies and programs.
