TNA’s support for Fonseka ‘conditional’ - Sampanthan
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader R. Sampanthan said the TNA has
decided to support Sarath Fonseka as he had agreed with the TNA’s
conditions to re-merge the Northern and the Eastern Province dismantling
high security zones and giving a permanent solution to the Tamil people.
He said that similar conditions were presented to President Mahinda
Rajapaksa, “We decided not to support President Rajapaksa for the
upcoming presidential election since he did not show a good response to
our conditions, he said.
The Uthayan newspaper in Jaffna published a document containing a set
of promises signed by Sarath Fonseka and the Opposition Leader Ranil
Wickremesinghe with the TNA led by R. Sambanthan.
Meanwhile, JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva said that the TNA had
offered its support to Sarath Fonseka since the TNA agreed with
Fonseka’s policies and programs.
He said that Fonseka had presented a plan to the TNA on the North and
the East issue on the resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
in the North and the East, removing some parts of the high security
zones and obtaining the support of the Tamil community to develop the
country. |
