JVP moving in wrong direction -JVSP

"The JVP has distorted their political ideology. Being a marxist - Leninist party they cannot serve a capitalist leader and the capitalist UNP Party", leader and Secretary General of the Jana Vimukthi Sahayogi Peramuna (JVSP) People's Liberation Solidarity Front, Dr. Kamal Karunadasa said.

He said that the harassment for the JVP was from UNP in the past. The UNP brutally decimated JVP leadership including a large number of its membership during the 1987-1989 UNP horror. The present power-hungry JVP leaders forced the JVP membership to work for the capitalist class and bring it to power which is totally wrong.

No socialist party never ever went in that direction in the past, he said.

"More enlightened sections of the membership who have grasped the reality are abandoning the present cunning leadership of the JVP and joining the progressive people's movement led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa", he said.

Referring to Presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka, Dr. Karunadasa said that he has no political ideology, when most of other political leaders have their own. That is a paramount requirement of a leader who is supposed to lead the country. Fonseka who has only a military background and a military knowledge will definitely lead this country to a military dictatorship eventually. That is of course will be a very dangerous situation, he said.

JVSP, which was one of the allies of the United National Front (UNF) left the UNF and extended unconditional support to President Mahinda Rajapaksa last week.

Dr. Karunadasa said that they could very well realise the motives behind Mangala Samaraweera and his alliance and the threat it poses to the democratic process of the country - when it attempts to bring a retired military officer to power.

"When we met Mangala after the nominations, we questioned him as to what would be the case if Sarath Fonseka does not step down from the Executive Presidency, if, he is elected. Samaraweera admitted nothing could be done in such a situation. That was one of "Sacred truths" to come out from Mangala's miracle-making alliance", he said.

Under Somawansa, Tilvin, Anura triumvirate JVP is moving in the wrong direction which totally runs counter to socialism - marxism - and the people's patriotic aspirations. They are trying their best to bring solidarity between capitalism and socialism which is totally impossible. JVP leaders who realised their deteriorating position in the country after having lost all the recent elections, have indulged in a deceitful game to secure few parliamentary seats for them, thus betraying the downtrodden to the capitalist UNP, he said.
