"Eka Adhipathi" at Elphinstone Theatre

"Eka Adhipathi" written and directed by Dharmasiri Bandaranayake will
go on the Boards at the Elphinstone Theatre, Colombo on January 21 at
3.00 p.m. and 7.00 p.m.
The original music score for the drama was directed by Premasiri
Khemadasa and now it is directed by Deshaka Sampath.
The cast include Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, Rajiv Ponweera, Swethekei
Munasinghe, Dayadeva Edirisinghe, Lal Peiris, Leonard Cooray, Upul
Nishantha, Sampath Tennakoon, Chamila Peiris, Gamini Wijesinghe, Chulla
Jayawardhana, Lalith Rajapaksa, Wathsala Ranasinghe, Jagath
Muthukumarana, Saman Pushpa Liyanage, Himasal Liyanage, Sudesh
Wickramarathne, Sarath P. Alawwa, Thushari Chamila Gunarathne, Oshadhi
Gunasekera, Rohan De Silva, Asiri Priyanga, Arunodh Wijesinghe, Niluka
Dilrukshi Rajamanthri, Manoj Peiris, Tennis Miller and Amil Deepal
Galanga.
'The Insane's Chilli Bed'

Wasantha Namaskara' s 60th exhibition "The Insane's Chilli Bed", a
perception art exhibition will be held at the Namaskara Open Art Gallery
in front of the bo-tree, Bandarawela Road, Ettampitiya from January
17-31.
Most of the people are suffering from mental illnesses. If they
ignore their illness and try to grow a chilli bed what will the result?
It will be an extra head to the inside pressure.
Mentally unstable people usually disturb others and their correct way
of living. Do you know that people who destroy the environment and harm
all the living being unnecessarily are also suffering from a mental
illness.
People who are suffering from mental illnesses should recognize what
causes them mentally unstable. If they fail to do that they can grow
another "Chilli Bed".
Annals of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura
A book entitled "Annals of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura"
will soon be launched on February 18, chronicling defining features of
the University of Sri Jayewardenepura during the period of 51 years. The
University was originally known as Vidyodaya University of Gangodawila.
The volume which is published by Godage Publishers was compiled by
senior Professor Sunil Ariyaratne.
The volume will, among other things, cover the origin of the Pirivena
Education in Sri Lanka, the seat of learning at Vidyodaya Pirivena and
the services rendered by Rev. Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala thera, academic
era of the most Ven. Welivitiye Sorata Nayaka Thera and the era of the
most Ven. Walpola Rahula Thera, the admission of female students to the
University of Vidyodaya in 1966 and converting the University into a
rehabilitation camp following the insurgency in 1971. The volume also
contains over 350 rare photographs.
The Flying Classroom
Modern version of the novel by Erich Kästner:
The Flying Classroom, a film will be screened on January 23 at 03.30
pm at Goethe Hall. The Film will be in German with English subtitles
Jonathan (12) is a new boy at the world famous St. Thomas boarding
school in Leipzig.
The other boys quickly become his friends. They find a manuscript of
a play and decide to perform it, but their choirmaster forbids them.
He wrote the play together with his friend Robert who, however,
disappeared when his father fled to the west from the GDR. The children
discover the true relationships and their Christmas celebration is a
resounding success after all.
Correction
In the story titled 'Life dedicated to art' published on September
27, 2009 it has been mentioned that Harry Pieris was an Oxford graduate
with degrees in Pali and Sanskrit. The name should read as Harold Pieris.
