Support President, Ven. Ramachandra tells Tamil-speaking people

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has launched several constructive initiatives to bridge the gap between the North and the South along with launching mega reconstruction and rehabilitation projects to rebuild the war-torn North and East according to Ven. Ramachandra Iyer - Veera Pandiyan Iyer, Co-ordinator Hindu Religious Affairs to President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Ven. Ramachandra appealing to the country men to support President Rajapaksa in a statement stated further unlike the other leader, President Rajapaksa was a lover of the Tamil language and Tamils.

The statement is as follows:

"All Sri Lankan Tamil speaking people are aware that the President took action to resolve the problems of the Eastern people by holding the election of the Eastern Provincial Council making Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan Chief Minister of the Eastern Province.

The Thai Pongal festivals for the years 2006, 2007, and 2008 were held at Temple Trees since Mahinda Rajapaksa became the President of this country. He celebrated the 2009 Thai Pongal Day in the up country. Thai Pongal is a special farmer's day celebrated by all Tamils. The President participated in these celebrations to respect the Thai Pongal festival.By delivering a speech in Tamil at the United Nations Organisation the President gave status to the Sri Lankan Tamils and the Tamil Language.

The President is giving a special place to the Tamils and the Tamil language by speaking in Tamil whenever the community meets him on specific Tamil days.

President Rajapaksa is trying to find a political solution for the ethnic problem. This political solution will have to be found with the support of the Southern people. Our President will not hesitate to go beyond the 13th Amendment to give more rights to the Tamil speaking people. It is very clear that only a political solution will lead to a peaceful co-existence between the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities of this country.

The opening of the A9 road, lifting of curfew in the Jaffna district, arrangements being made to travel by Yaldevi to the North and liberation of the East. There is no doubt that President Mahinda Rajapaksa will provide a good solution for the political problems of Tamil speaking people during his second term."
