N & E Tamils urged to vote for President Rajapaksa
by Our Political Correspondent
A representative of the Tamil Expatriates Association from the United
Kingdom, Rajeswary Balasubramaniam urged the Tamil-speaking people from
the North and the East to support President Mahinda Rajapaksa for a
durable political solution and for rapid development activities in the
war-torn region.
Balasubramaniam, in a statement released on behalf of her association
has said the United National Party (UNP) was responsible for the
conditions in the North and the East.
"The UNP systematically oppressed the Tamils since it came to power
in 1977, whereas President Mahinda Rajapaksa united the entire country
by ending the war in the North and the East" she said.
With the war coming to an end, the people in the North and the East
are now living peacefully. Prices of essential items which remained high
for more than three decades have now come down.
Civilians from other areas also enjoy easy access to the region
without any hindrance.
Therefore, to reach a durable settlement to Tamil problem, we should
bring back President Mahinda Rajapaksa to power", Balasubramaniam
stated.
