Macro economy stabilised
Senior Lecturer in Economics, University of Colombo Dr Ranjith
Bandara said that the election results took the country to a different
path by further stabilising the macro economy and meeting the
aspirations of all Sri Lankans. He said that this was possible as the
policies of the Mahinda Chintana can be continued without disruption.

This is the message given by Sri Lankans and this is what Sri Lankans
felt as Sri Lankans never had an opportunity for policy continuation
since independence.
He said that policies always changed when Governments changed but
with the historic win of President Mahinda Rajapaksa for the first time
in the history of Sri Lanka the country has got an opportunity to
continue its development efforts and improve the economy thereby
stimulating the local economy while looking at greater opportunities in
the external sector.
Dr. Bandara said that the country will also be able to explore
opportunities as a result of the global recognition the President and
the country has received from the international community.
This victory also establishes political stability which is a vital
ingredient for investor confidence, be it local or foreign. Most of the
investors were having a wait and see policy but now that confidence has
been restored. It will be a development phase from now, said Dr Bandara.
Some of the sectors that the country will explore include education,
agriculture, tourism as well as IT. By being the hub of the region the
economic and social conditions of the people will improve and that is
certain as Sri Lanka is now classified as a middle income country. |
