The Talk on Taw
by Nilma Dole
Damaged hair can be a real pain
in the scalp, especially when it comes to getting the right shine to
show off. In times like these, stress and climatic conditions can be a
flip side in making you lose your lustre, so it is important that you
save your hair mane without going insane. There are some signs to
identify damaged hair in case you didn’t know.
If you have a rough hair texture, set aside from the shiny glow, then
you should watch out. An overly porous hair which is dry and brittle
that doesn’t feel nice to the touch is also damaged hair. If hair is
prone to breakage and is matted when wet is serious enough to raise your
alarms. In Sri Lanka, several factors like just drying your hair in the
blistering heat or doing all sorts of tinting and highlighting without
using a special conditioner can make your hair go kaput.
The good news is that Thomas Taw, a British hair expert on damaged
hair and repair is one of those hair-raising gurus to learn from since
he’s got the flair to make others stare in awe at your hair.
Taw on his blog says, “I can spot damaged hair a mile away and have
developed a special test to check the levels of damage, involving the
‘floating hair in water’ technique”.
He adds, “For me, complete repair comes from deep penetration into
each layer of the hair follicles, filling in the cracks created. Without
this approach, all you achieve is a veneer over the damage, without
actually repairing anything.” He says that the secret is to create a
solution that reinforces hair structure and brings back extreme
smoothness by penetrating deeper and filling damaged cracks. So thanks
to Tom Taw, you can spruce your hair with his magical treatment in the
form of Damage Reconstruction Program courtesy Sunsilk.
Tom Taw’s Tips:
* Firstly, see if you have any damage by pulling out a single hair
strand and submerging it into a glass of water. If it floats, your hair
is healthy; if it sinks, you are in need of some repair
* When drying your hair, gently squeeze out excess water with a towel
- don’t rub hair vigorously - and be extra careful when combing it out
as hair is weakest when it is wet
* Use a treatment for dry/damaged hair once a week.
* Eat a balanced diet including multivitamins and proteins to
increase hair growth. Take time when brushing your hair and be careful
when using hair accessories (avoid rubber bands and headbands - these
can exacerbate damage)
* Drink at least two litres of water a day to re-hydrate your body
including your hair
*If you want an alternative treatment, apply a small amount of olive
oil onto your hair and let it soak in for an hour. Wash and dry your
hair as normal. |
