From a teacher

I behold you
As a blossom
Bloomed in a desert

Bed-ridden father
Hard working mother
Destitute siblings
Crying for a crumb
Are your only world

The patched frock
You wear everyday
The dog-eared books
In your torn satchel
Are your only assets

Showing a smiling face
You make a great effort
To hide the life
You led miserably
But it is in vain

As your beloved teacher
I always feel
The pulse of your heart
though I'm at a loss

Indika Vithanage

"The time"

The throne of the universe
Is to his majesty "The Time"
Changes, decays, and destroys
Restores, renews and rebuilds
No power could stop its movement
It remains unchanged everlasting
Changing everything and all
The unmatched super power
"The Time" the supreme

A power that none could see
A strength that has no residence
A commander that none could refuse
Closest companion from birth to death
Never ever would call for a favour
The commander of the universe
"The Time" the supreme

The time decides the "Time for us'
The time respects I know for sure
For those who care for time
The only formula to win time
Practise from today and now onwards
Caring for the time
The decider of everything
"The Time" supreme
This is the right moment
As you extend a red carpet welcome
To the prince of new year
To contemplate of its power
Take into your heart this quotation
"Time waste my friends...
"Is waste of our lives"

Nimal Sedera

Sheer bliss...!

It's a relief
When you know it's over
It's such a wonderful world
Filled with the most serendipitous moments
That rolls in front of your eyes
Every moment
As you see ahead

You feel like it's your first breath
On this very earth
So tender
And so fresh
Oh! Could it ever be described
Even with the words of a genius
No... Not even an attempt!

It's not your feet that jumps up
In the air
Yet you feel yourself floating up
Above the sky
Like a weightless butterfly
Oh! A moment of utter bliss!

The dark nights are no more
Those pile of books are no more
Ah! Now's the time to enjoy life with a long slumber
'For you know those tirin' exams are over!

Ramazah R.

Mercy

I started to study
What is that? misprint!
A small dot end of that line
I tried to remove it
Oh! what have I done?
You have died. Oh! Little insect
OH! Little one
I didn't hear your cries
The little mark of your blood
Shorter than an inch
I couldn't find your body - but
I couldn't study again

Kapilraj

A true teacher

A true teacher kindles the world
As the sun brightens the earth
With knowledge, skills and attitudes
He escorts others to the summit

He opens our minds
To the book of life
A true teacher lights love
Kindness and concern in the hearts

He is a model
For the young to follow
He treats equally
All rich and needy

A true teacher is trustworthy
He never betrays any
Like a shadow he follows us
At times most wanted

A true teacher leaves you alone
To think freely
He only corrects
Whenever you go wrong

His senses are sharp
To detect the weak
Tactfully he handles clever
In making them better

A true teacher is a one
Who polishes the gems
Mould them into patterns
To make them glisten
