Full field for Donald Steel golf tourney

GOLF: Over 80 both foreign and local golfers have entered the 12th
Annual Donald Steel Golf Championship organised by the Victoria Golf and
Country Resort which will be worked off with all pomp and pageantry at
the beautiful Victoria golf course at Rajawella next Saturday - February
13th with the first tee off at 7 a.m.
With eight days to go for this prestigious championship, the total
number of entries is expected to exceed the century with lot more
foreign golfers to come from the European countries.
This championship is called the Donald Steel Golf Championship but
three other major championship for men and women will be worked off
alongside.
The name of the championship is derived from the world famous golf
architect Donald Steel who is also a famous golf journalist who designed
the Victoria golf course on a 500 acre coconut plantation which was once
a Dutch farm.
According to many international personalities who have played at this
course are of view that it has a blend of all the ingredients to make it
a model and challenging course. It is lined up with coconut palms, Mara
trees, there are the birds and small but harmless wild life, out
cropping of rocks, hillocks, the plains and the major section of the
course is surrounded by the waters of the Victoria reservoir. Nowhere in
the world is a golf course which has a blend of all features.
Donald Steel Trophy is the major trophy on offer and is in the name
of the golfer and architect who designed and will be awarded for the
gentleman golfer who registers the Best Gross score over the single
round.
Some of the lady participants will be that five times winner of the
Pam Fernando Trophy Suwen Selvaratnam, Niloo Jayatillake, Roshni Sangani,
Sonia Boyle, Jyoti Haynes, Indira Tibblin, Pauline Morley, Dess Penn,
Maleena Awn, Linda Harris, Tina Hannsson, Lillian Perera and many
others.
