National Youth Drama Festival
The most colourful and
attractive program of the National Youth Services Council (NYSC), the
annual National Youth Drama Festival will be held from February 1 to
February 13, 2010 at the Lumbini Theatre.
 The National Drama Festival (conducted by Cultural Department) and
Youth Drama Festival (conducted by the NYSC) are the main Drama
Festivals in Sri Lanka. The Youth Drama Festival will be held under two
categories as short and lengthy drama competitions. Short Drama Festival
will be conducted in two levels, district and national levels.
The NYSC provides facilities to give more chances to the budding
dramatists to be introduced to the National level.The best selected
short dramas at district levels will be forwarded to the national level
short drama festival. 142 short plays and 40 lengthy dramas forwarded
for the festival and five lengthy dramas on 23 short plays were selected
for the final round.A separate competition will be held in coincide with
the Youth Drama Festival for Tamil medium.
The inaugural ceremony of the Drama Festival was held on February 1
at 6 p.m. under the patronage of the Youth Affairs Minister Pavithra
Wanniarachchi at the Lumbini Theatre Colombo 5. On February 1 at 6 p.m,
the short plays Kuduwata Enakan (Y. Gayan Deshappriya), Alpenethi Olu (Dinusha
Jayakodi), Cricket Gahanna Enna (G. Chamila Priyanka) will take place.
Other plays include Ballo Dennek (Ananda Chandrakumara), Adarayak
Kathakarai (Dhamith Welikala), Sapatthumal (Hiran Senaviratne), Pem
Uwalak Saha Pem Uwalak (Chamara Dhesappriya Guruge),Mata Numba (A.D.K.T.
Dilhani), Mohotakata Pasu (Vidura Shanaka),Microsotistkage Andonawa (Haridu
Abeysiriwardane). Amongst the lengthy plays, watch out for Amuthu
Herageyaka (K.P.T. Chamani Pathirana).
More short plays include Rajjaya Sevaya Pinishai (Vijith Medawela),
Seethala, Poda Wessak (Mohomad Ilmi Hassim), Attanan (Harsha Thennakoon).
Short plays include Nokeevai Kiyanna Epa (Malika Jayasinghe), Sansarika
Santhana (Saman Kumarage Gamage), Pramadaya (H.P. Arunasiri), Sevaneli (Tharaka
Puspakumara).
Short plays are Pettiyak Dedahai (Pradeep Kumar Rajapaksa), Hamuweema
(Palitha Abeylal Jayasinghe), Deesan Dennik (Sanjaya Roshan). On
February 10, the lengthy drama Kumarawaru Avith (Hewage Bandula) and
short plays include Sajeevi Telinattyak (Chaminda Amaradasa), Paraputu (Yasantha
Karunaratne), Punchi Janelaya (Lanka Bandaranayaka).
The Tamil short plays include Manitham (Selvaraja Seelaran), Emmai
Weedimgal(T. Jesudasan), Thirada Thayam (Pavalasingham Sirinadan),
Kadaulukkov Kaditham (K. Indaraja). On February 13, look out for a
lengthy play called His Arakasaye Putuwa Aran (M. Safeer). |
