CSLBC to appeal to Tamil diaspora to develop NE

A delegation of prospective investors including the members of
Canada-Sri Lanka Business Council (CSLBC) led by Treasurer of CSLBC
Nalaka Weerasinghe called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa recently.
The delegation had returned to Colombo from a visit to Jaffna. During
the discussion on a wide range of topics opportunities of investment in
the North and the East were stressed.
President Rajapaksa called investors to invest in the health and
tourism sectors on the special needs of the people of Jaffna.
Weerasinghe said that the delegation had assured the President, that
on their return to Canada they would appeal to the Tamil diaspora to
develop the North and the East, by investing in the North.
The delegation also met the Bishop of Jaffna, the Most. Rev. Thomas
Saundaranayagam, Government Agent, K. Ganesh, Security Forces Commander,
Jaffna, Major Gen. Mahinda Hathurusinghe and the High Commissioner for
Canada in Sri Lanka, Bruce Levy.
The delegation also made a contribution of US$ 20,000 to the
President from the Tamils in Toronto, to be used for the care of
displaced and orphaned children at the Siriliya Sevana in Vavuniya.
