Progress on H’tota port commended

The International Monetary Fund Mission (IMF) Chief to Sri Lanka, Dr.
Brian Aitkin has expressed satisfaction on the progress made at the
Hambantota Port development project.
The IMF Chief visited the Port complex on Friday with the Chairman of
the Ports Authority, Dr. Priyath Wickrama and Senior Chinese engineers
handling the project. The SLPA Chief who took the IMF official on a
guided tour to the harbour outlined the progress of the ongoing project
work.
Dr. Aitkin was happy with the speedy progress at the Hambantota Port
and the way the Chinese aid was being utilised.
Deputy Chief Engineer, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Agil Hewageegana
said that he was keen to know why Hambantota had been selected to build
a harbour and the SLPA chairman explained the numerous economic benefits
the country would reap from the project.
The responsible and transparent manner in which the funds were
utilised too was also explained to the local IMF boss.
