Sampath Bank’s sextet bring honour and glory to Sri Lanka

SA GAMES: Five sportsmen and one sportswoman of Sampath Bank did the
country proud by performing well in three disciplines - Badminton,
Basketball and Hockey at the recently concluded 11th edition of the
South Asian Games held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The performances of the participants was due to the great support and
encouragement extended by Sampath Bank management stated the
participants Hasitha Chanaka, Thilini Jayasinghe (Badminton), Chamath
Danawansa, Mithila Abeysekera (Basketball) and Diluka Weerasooriya,
Harshana Hettiarachchi (Hockey).
Former Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda shuttler Hasitha won a silver
medal in the Team event and bronze in the men’s doubles while Thilini -
a past Mahamaya College, Kandy player, grabbed a silver in the Team
event and a bronze in the women singles in badminton. Both Hasitha and
Thilini left for Thailand yesterday (Saturday 20th) with the Sri Lanka
badminton team to participate at the World Badminton Team Championships
to be held in Bangkok.
Two of Sampath Bank ‘stickers’ Diluk who represented Christ Church
College, Matale and Harshana who played for St. Thomas College, Matale
showed their stick artistry in their matches against India, Pakistan,
Bangladesh, Nepal and Afghanistan in the group matches. Both players
also excelled in the match to decide the Bronze Medal against
Bangladesh.
The two basketball players Chamath - a former Royalist known for his
outstanding play and Mithila - a former Nalanda player, performed the
best in the basketball discipline with their allround display on the
court against the other seven nations. The six players were in a happy
mood as they said that it brought them great joy of being able to do
something for the country as well as for the establishment they work for
Sampath Bank. With the management working at all our needs. It will be
possible for us to perform better in the assignments to follow.
Sampath Bank was very happy about its employees; high performances at
the South Asian Games held in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The bank assures the present lot and other sportsmen and sportswomen
of the bank their utmost support to go forward and achieve success, said
a member of the Sampath Bank Sports Club. The squad of six who went for
the South Asian Games were thankful to the management of Sampath Bank
for the help extended to them to make the trip to Dhaka to participate
at the Games. |
