Kandy schoolgirls among medal winners

A memento for 17 year-old Madavi Weeratunga of Mahamaya Girls’
College being presented a souvenir by Principal Indra
Withanachchi for her good showing at the SA Games. Madavi was
also given honour award “Mahamaya Swarna Wibhusana” by the
school authorities. Also present were Deputy Principals Vishaka
Herath and Uthpala Seneviratne.

SA GAMES: Kandy schoolgirls were very much in the picture and made
some impression at the South Asian Games in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The most impressive among the Kandy contingent was swimmer
Miniruawani Samarakoon from Girls High School, Kandy. She won two Silver
Medals 50 metres Dolphin Stroke and was a member of the Medley Relay 4 x
100 metres team that won the Silver Medal. She also won the Bronze Medal
in the 100 metres Dolphin Stroke. Then 17 year-old Madavi Weeratunga of
Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy was in the Silver Medal winning medley
relay team in the 4 x 100 metres event.
For her good showing at the meet Madavi was given the ‘Mahamaya
Swarna Wibhushana’ by Mahamaya school authorities.
Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy schoolgirl Achini Weligampola
was a member of the women’s soccer team at the Games.
She came into the soccer scene last year as a 15 year-old when she
led the school team to win the Central Province Tournament.

Welcome back ....Miniruwani Samarakoon of Girls’ High
School, Kandy is welcomed by Principal of Girls’ High School
when she came to school after her fine showing at the South
Asian Games swimming events. |
