Victoria monthly golf championship:

Errol Johnston wins Overall Nett Title

Australian born Errol Johnston won the overall net title at the third medal round of monthly golf championship of Victoria Golf and Country Resort, worked off at the beautiful Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella off Kandy.

Johnston known for his prowess in longest drive playing to a handicap of 12 registered a Nett score of 72 pushing Chamil Wickremasinghe to second place after a count back on the last nine holes after both golfer had tied with scores of 72 each. It was a truly remarkable performance by Errol Johston.

Manori Jayakody showed glimpses of her old four by registering a Nett score of 73 to win the medal nett title for ladies. She played to a handicap of 20 Suwan Selvaratnam too responded with a nett score of 73 but Manori Jayakoddy edged out her challenger on a count back on the last nine holes.

Versatile Yvonne Abahayaratne too sparkled by winning two events. First she won the nearest to the pin for ladies and later won the longest drive for ladies and this event for men went Sujeewa Lankatillake.

Suwen Selvaratnam was the gross title for ladies with a gross score of 81 followed by T. Abeyratne with 87.

Talented Chamil Wickremasinghe won the Gross Medal title for men with a gross score of 77 and rounded his triumph by winning the nearest to the pin for men. Cricketer Sam Gunaratne emerged winner in the Division One Competition for handicappers between 10 and 12 with a nett score of 77.

Per Cramborn also did well to win the Nett Medal title with a nett score.

The golf course was in superb condition and the golfers enjoyed it.

The results:

Women - Nett Winner (Medal): Manori Jayakody 73 points.

Women - Gross Winner (Medal): Suven Selveratnam 81 points.

Gentlemen - Division II (13 - 28) - Nett Winner: Suren Waas 73 points.

Nett Winner: Sam Gunaratne 77 points.

Gross Winner (Medal): Chamil Wickremasinghe 77 points.

Nett (Medal): Per Cramborn 73 points.

Overall Winner Nett: Errol Johnston 72 points.

Nearest to the Pin Women: Yvonne Abhayaratne.

Nearest to the Pin Gentlemen: Chamil Wickramasinghe.

Longest Drive Women: Yvonne Abhayaratne.

Longest Drive Gentlemen: Sujeewa Lankathilake.
