Sunset Cruise
by Nilma Dole
It was a right royal cruise
aboard the Navy’s Jetliner cruise ship where the Royal College Class of
72 had their fun OBA night.
We set sail at around 6 o’clock to catch the brilliant colours of a
beautiful sunset. Engulfing the delicate Sri Lankan sky with
eye-catching colours, we were treated to several hues and tones like a
painter’s canvass board. We were amazed at the beauty and sheer
captivating colours that we witnessed aboard the sunset cruise. Passing
the Galle Face green, Marine Drive and then Beach Wadiya, we saw the
lights of Mount Lavinia hotel before turning back to the harbour.
The music of sunset was provided by the Navy Wind Band which played
several songs like Abba’s ‘Mamma Mia’ and even some melodic baila!
Arriving by 8pm to the harbour, we then got our toes tapping to the
beats of Ranil and Black which were in full swing. They gave us a night
to remember with the classic numbers like Neil Diamond, Bryan Adams and
even some Lambada! The boat sure swayed the right way with the young and
the old dancing and prancing to the heart-racing music.
A special dancer in her electric green colours dazzled the audience
with her gyrating hip-shaking moves. Laura Habibi from the Habibi
restaurant thrilled all with her belly dancing moves rocking and
shocking all with her Arab moves. She was indeed mesmerising and
enthralled everyone with her superb dances!
Special thanks goes to Saman De Silva, Azad Mansoor and the rest of
the organizing and fund raising committee for making sure everything
went royally right.
