BASKETBALL:Vidura College under-15 basketball team turned up triumphs
at the International Basketball Tournament held in Bangalore. Leading
basketball teams from Bangalore - Bangalore Youth Basketball Club,
Bangalore Basketball academy, Bangalore Red Stars Basketball Club and
YMCA College Basketball Team participated along with Vidura College.
In the final, Vidura College, Colombo beat Bangalore Red Stars
Basketball Academy by 50 points to 48 in a closely fought out game.
In the first semi-final, Vidura College beat Bangalore Youth by 50
points to 42 with Thesath Jayawardena (20), Comester (14) and Thimal
Kithsara (16) doing the scoring. For the Bangalore team N. Krishnasami
(16), A. Paulpillai (16), D. Gopplan (8) and N. David (2) scored the
points.
In the second semi-final, Bangalore Basketball Academy beat Bangalore
Young Stars also by the same maragin 50 points to 42.
The final turned out to be a well fought-out battle and Vidura
College, Colombo just edged through to win by 50 points to 48. The
scores for Vidura College were: Thesath Jayawwardena (20), Comester
(16), Thimal Kithsara (14). For the Bangalore side, R. Krishnamurthi
(20), B. Shivalingam (16) and H. Gopal (6) scored the points.
Vidura College players won special awards. Thesath Jayawardena (best
shooter), Sudesh Comester (best all-rounder), Milinda Dahanayaka (best
dribbler) and Lelum Mahakumara (best defender).
