Trinity and Mahamaya boys and girls overall champs

ATHLETICS: Trinity College and Mahamaya Girls College won the boys
and girls overall championships at the recent Track and Field
Championship Meet organised by the Education Department, Kandy. The meet
was held at the Bogambara Stadium.
The outstanding athlete in the under 19 boys age group was H. M.
Saleemdeen who established a meet record with a timing of 56.80 seconds
in the 400 metres hurdles event.

Best Athlete girls
under 19 ... J.P. Kularatne of Girls High School, Kandy who
with a effort of 4.64 metres in the Long Jump event for
girls under 19 and also had a timing of 28.0 seconds in the
200 metres for girls was the best among the girls in both
track and field events. Here she receives the champions
shield for under 19 from Chief Minister (CP) Sarath
Ekanayake. |
Champ in under 11 age
group ... 10 year-old R.M.P.M. Ranaweera of Trinity College
who turned out to be the champion athlete in the under 11
boys age group, having clocked 15.02 seconds in the 100
metres and had a leap of 3.79 metres in the long jump
receiving a shield from Mrs. Asoka Disanayake - Deputy
Principal of Mahamaya Girls College, kandy.

A record-breaker gets his
reward ... H.M. Salimdeen - who turned out to be the
outstanding athlete in the under 19 events at the Education
Department organised Track and Field Meet at Bogambara,
receives the champions trophy from Lt. Col. Gamini Samrakoon
- Commanding Officer, Cadet Corps, Kandy. Salimdeen
established a record in the 400 meters Hurdles event with a
timing 56.80 seconds.

two ... 200 metres girls under 17 ... Akshana Maralanda of
Mahamaya Girls College (No.169) came first in 200 metres
clocking 25.09 seconds while Budhini Samarasinghe (No.170)
came second. |
