Meet Dr White, the miracle physician

"He, who has health, has hope; and he who has hope has everything" goes the popular proverb. But sickness will strike you at any time irrespective of your wealth or social status. Health is the 'greatest of all we count as blessings', and those who help us regain our lost health within a very short time period using "miraculous treatment", are none other than "miracle doctors." Miracle doctors are extremely rare. But our "miracle island" is blessed with such a "wonder physician"!

I felt privileged to be the interviewer of President's Mahinda Rajapaksa's personal physician Dr. Eliyantha Lindsay White who had cured more than 18,000 patients using his unique treatment methods. He was referred to as the "Miracle doctor in the miracle island" by former Indian Cricket captain Sachin Tendulkar as he recovered from severe sports injuries after under going Dr. White's treatment. As Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir says Dr. White uses the "fastest medicine" on earth to treat his patients! According to Sri Lankan cricketer Lasith Malinga Dr. White "works with supernatural powers and herbs!"

It is surprising to note that the treatment includes only a few drops of herbal concoction. Though Dr. White,a Sri Lankan by birth, hit local and international headlines for his miraculous treatment for sports injuries, he has excelled in treating almost all diseases - cancer, thalaesemia, migraine, spinal disorders, gastritis and even AIDS.

AIDS patients

When asked of the method of treatment used for treating AIDS patients, Dr. White said that they have not yet started treating AIDS patients. "But We have found a treatment for AIDS and I am sure it will offer an unbelievable one hundred percent rate of success. We hope to start treating AIDS patents in the near future"

He practises his own treatment method. It is partly an Ayurveda method and the rest is his own. As believed by many he is blessed with a universal power that helps him identify the real cause of the disease. As Dr. White says when a patient sits in front of him he can study his/her reports and feel his system. "I always sense the medication for his ailment. Dr. White also claims himself to be the first to discover a cure for Leishmaniasis.

As Dr. White says ailments are solely due to the sins we have committed in our previous births. Being a Buddhist, he believes in Kamma. "But I respect all religions. I believe in what the Buddha taught, but I come from a Catholic background. Even now I stand up and pay respect, when going past a church. "I lead a simple life."

Whatever the religion you follow to, you cannot get rid of your past Kamma. According to Dr. White said there were certain patients (especially those who suffer from cancer) who claimed themselves innocent. "They always say that they have not inflicted pain on anyone. That may be true. They might have spent a virtuous life even in their immediate previous births. But in one of their previous births - may be thousands of years ago they must have committed some sin."

Though he has been in the medical profession for the past 10-12 years, it was in 2004 that this 'miracle doctor' got the chance to meet President Rajapaksa. "No sooner I met the President, I felt that I have come to the right person. He listened to me attentively when I explained to him my method of treating illnesses."

Dr. White who is extremely pleased with the President's strong and graceful leadership explained how his mission gradually became a success as the Head of State accepted him as a "Miracle Healer" after taking treatment from him.

"Determination is the foundation of success. What I really appreciate is the President's determination. He is determined to make this treatment method popular internationally."

Priority for children

He has treated several politicians-both in the Government and the opposition, and singers such as Latha Walpola, cricketers, Sanath Jayasuriya and many other celebrities. Recently, Dr.White has been appointed as the family physician of the Ambani family in India. (Mukesh Ambani is an Indian business magnate.) The Ambanis will visit Sri Lanka to meet President Rajapaksa to get legal approval for the appointment.

Dismissing the allegation that only celebrities have access to his treatment, Dr. White said he had always reached out to those who needed his help. "I have treated many poor people. But it is only when I treat a celebrity that it hits headlines." He said, anyway due to millions of patients who are on the waiting list, President Rajapaksa has advised him to give priority to children. "So priority is being given to 9,000 children who need immediate medical attention."

As businessman Jayantha Dhanapala said Dr.White's treatment methods are so effective and miraculous..

Patients who wish to see Dr. White, have to write to President Rajapaksa. "Then the relevant authorities will forward the letter to Dr. White." Though Dr. White is ever willing to provide treatment to all who wish to see him, due to the enormous number of applications received by him there is a practical difficulty in attending to all of them. So as his Coordinating Secretary Ruwan Edirisinghe said it is better only if patients who suffer from grave illnesses write to him. "There are people who need treatment either to stop premature graying or to become fair. But we have to give priority to those who suffer from fatal illnesses."

When asked whether he has any message to pass on to other medical practitioners, Dr. White said he has utmost respect for them. The role played by Western medical practitioners is commendable. This should be a team effort."

"As a doctor I always listen to my patients. You cannot jump into conclusions, without listening to their problems. So a doctor should spend more time with a patient. They should try to reduce the number of patients they see per day."

Though fluent in four languages, he prefers to speak in Sinhala. He believes that Sri Lanka is a blessed land, so his treatment should take place here. To reach out to international patients, Dr. White hopes to treat 1,000 Indian patients who will arrive in Sri Lanka after Poson Poya. "As President Rajapaksa says India is not only our friend, but also the closest relative. Before long, Sri Lanka will be hailed not only as the land of super cricketers, but also as the land of "wonderful physicians."! Let's be optimistic!
