Haritha Lanka for sustainable social, economic development

The Sri Lankan Government has implemented a program called Haritha
Lanka under Mahinda Chinthana to achieve sustainable social and economic
development, Deputy Environment Minister Faizer Musthapha said.
Addressing the concluding session of the first 'Rio+20 Platform
Dialogue and Partnership Fair' of the first Regional Consultation by the
Climate Sustainability Platform to follow up on the first preparatory
meeting of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development
(Rio+20) at the Galle Face Hotel, Colombo, Minister Musthapha said a
National Council for Sustainable Development has been established on the
recommendations of the National Sustainable Development Strategy.
He stated that a comprehensive plan called 'National Action Plan for
Haritha Lanka' has been prepared to be implemented for 2010-2016 under
the supervision of the National Council for Sustainable Development
covering environmentally sensitive areas.
The Minister stressed the necessity for political integration at the
highest level to arrive at sustainable development in the country.
