Land demarcation programs in resettled villages
by Dhaneshi YATAWARA
The Ministry of Resettlement has launched land demarcation programs
in the resettled villages to solve many issues faced by the villagers.
Under its first phase, officials of the Resettlement Ministry and the
Trincomalee District Secretariat marked boundaries of lands belonging to
841 families living in six villages in the Kuchchaweli DS division in
the Trincomalee district, an official of the Resettlement Ministry said.
The program covered Irakkandi, Kumburupiddi, Thalappeyar, Iranakeni,
Podawakattu and the Thennamarawadi villages.
A meeting in this connection was held at the Kuchchaweli Divisional
Secretariat last week headed by Resettlement Minister Milroy Fernando.
Deputy Minister of Resettlement Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan,
Trincomalee District Secretary Major General (Rtd) T.T.R. de Silva and
several other senior officials of the Ministry and District Secretariat
participated.
The meeting noted that 438 families belonged to the Thennamarawadi
village whereas a less number of families was resettled last year in
this village. Minister Fernando directed the Trincomalee District
Secretary to resettle the families in their original areas.
Minister Fernando along with Deputy Minister Muralitharan and other
senior officials of the Ministry and District Secretariat visited these
villages last week. The program will be implemented in other selected
resettled villages of the Northern and Eastern Provinces, ministry
sources said.
