Boost for agriculture in Mullaithivu

The Government has allocated Rs. 27 million to encourage agriculture in the Mullaithivu district, District Secretary Imelda Suhumar said.

According to Suhumar Rs. 6 million has been allocated to carry out agricultural activities on barren land in resettled areas and Rs. 21 million to set up Agrarian Banks in the areas.

The allocation was made following the visit of Agriculture Deputy Minister Jagath Pushpakumara to the Mullaithivu district and after discussions with those resettled.

Agricultural activities will be carried out on barren land in Maanthai, Thunukkai, Oddusuddan and the Marachchilambatru areas using Rs. 6 million.

Agrarian Banks will be established in Thunukkai, Maanthai and Oddusuddan with the remaining funds.
