Underaged prostitution- suspects nabbed

Timely action by the OIC Crimes Chilaw, Tissa Maldeniya and his team of policemen prevented four underaged girls from being sent for prostitution on Thursday.

The girls from the Kuliyapitiya Sarvodaya Probation Centre were travelling with a suspect to Chilaw by bus to be transported in a connecting bus to Negombo for alleged child prostitution. OIC Crime, Chilaw, Tissa Maldeniya and his team of policemen nabbed the suspect with the girls at the Chilaw busstand following a tip-off on Thursday.

As the girls accompanied by the male suspect, were about to board a connecting bus to Negombo, they were apprehended and taken in for questioning.

The OIC has obtained vital information that the four girls were from Kurunegala, Anamaduwa and Chilaw. The girls revealed that they were in the age group from 14-16.

It was also revealed that the male suspect had carried on an affair with one of the girls and with her assistance he had managed to take them out from the probation home.

It has been now confirmed that the underaged children were to be taken for child prostitution.

A suspect was arrested in connection with the incident, at Karavitagara in Chilaw, while Two more suspects were to be taken into custody by the Chilaw OIC.Further investigations are continuing with regard to the incident.
