Union for displaced Northern Muslims

Displaced Northern Muslims have formed a union called ‘Pandaraweli
Resettlement Development Society’ to take steps to facilitate their
resettlement in their original places and to look into other matters
relating to the resettlement process.
The Muslims who were forcibly evicted by the LTTE from the North in
1990 are now residing in the Puttalam, Norochcholai, Koiyawadi and Arafa
Nagar areas.
The Government is resettling the IDPs step by step in their own
places, in view of the peaceful situation prevailing in the country.
A discussion with intellectuals was also held at Arafa Nagar in
connection with the resettlement of the people who were displaced from
Pandaraweli, Mannar.
Exhibition, art competition on June 19, 20
An exhibition of paintings and an inter-international schools art
competition have been organised by Burhani Serendib School,
Bambalapitiya, to be held at the National Art Gallery on June 19, 20
from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm.
Fifteen international schools will participate under the following
categories.
*Primary 7 yrs-9 yrs: My home and garden
*Junior 10 yrs-12 yrs: National festival/event,
*Senior 13 yrs-15 yrs: Abstract form of people at work and,
*Senior Secondary 16 yrs-18 yrs People admiring a water fall.
The High Commissioner of Malaysia in Sri Lanka Datuk Rosli Ismail
will be the chief guest while the President of Anjuman-E-Saifi (Sri
Lanka) Trust Janab Amil Saheb Nooruddin Bhal Saheb will be the guest of
honour.
Ananda Group ‘91 get-together
The Annual get-together of Ananda College, Group ‘91 will be held at
Solis Hall, Pita Kotte on June 19 from 7.30 pm onwards.
The event is in aid of renovation of the Ananda College music room.

Exhibition concludes today
An exhibition of paintings by H.K. Wimal Dharmarathne which commenced
at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery on Friday, June 11 will conclude today,
Sunday, June 13.The expo will be held from 9 am to 8.00 p.m.

Forum on snake bites
The National Forum on Snake Bite Awareness, organised by Environment
Foundation Limited (EFL) jointly with the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society
and the American Red Cross, will be held at the BMICH on June 16,
(Wednesday) from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm.
Since its first campaign was initiated in 2009 in Sri Lanka, the EFL
has conducted awareness campaigns and workshops on reducing snake bite
incidents and the basic first aid methods in case of a snake bite.
`Snake bite awareness week' has also been organised by EFL from June
14 to 20. - MN
She pleads for help
Nine-year-old Nethmi Rashenka, of No. 75, Nawagamuwa, Ranala is
suffering from a chronic heart ailment, with only one ventricle and the
Senior Consultant and Chief Paediatric Cardiologist, Dr. K. Sivakumar of
MIOT Hospitals, Chennai, India has recommended heart surgery
(Trans-catheter Blade Atrial Septostomy) immediately.
The estimated cost of the procedure to be performed in India will be
around Rupees seven lakhs. The father of Nethmi is a Security Guard at a
private security company is unable to afford the cost and therefore,
appeals for assistance from the public.

HFC Dehiwala 75th jubilee on June 15
The 75th year jubilee celebrations of Holy Family Convent, Dehiwala
will be held on a grand scale on Tuesday, June 15, with a thanksgiving
Mass presided over by the Archbishop of Colombo, Most Rev. Dr. Malcolm
Ranjith, followed by several activities.
Release of cattle on Poson day
The Dehiwela YMBA will release over 100 head of cattle to mark Poson
Full Moon Poya day, which falls on June 25.
In the previous years too, several head of cattle brought to
slaughter houses, were released at the YMBA premises in Dehiwela and
handed over to dairy farmers.
The YMBA request those interested in this meritorious act to
contribute to the fund initiated by the Dehiwela YMBA. |
