Visuddha wins SCM Worldwide title

A student of the Institute of Supply & Materials Management (ISMM),
Sri Lanka, Visuddha Piyathillake, Technical Inventory Manager of South
Asia Gateway Terminals (Pvt.) Ltd has been awarded the first place out
of 10 winners in a worldwide competition organised by the International
Trade Centre (ITC), Geneva, Switzerland, in collaboration with the
Kenyan Institute for Supplies Management (KISM) held in Nairobi, Kenya
from 6 - 7 May 2010.
The students who are following their International Supply Chain
Management (SCM) Diploma Course under the Modular Learning System (MLS)
which is conducted in Sri Lanka by the Institute of Supply & Materials
Management in collaboration with ITC, Geneva, Switzerland are eligible
to participate in "MLS SCM Success Story Competition". All competitors
worldwide (Partner Institution of ITC) had to submit their success
stories which are achieved through practical application of SCM at their
workplaces, with significant positive impact, have been showcased by
participants who have studied the MLS-SCM Programme across the globe.
While Visuddha won the first place, another Sri Lankan student Lt. Cdr.
Wimal Wettimuny, a retired Naval officer, presently Assistant General
Manager of Union Assurance PLC was also among one of the ten winners
worldwide.
As part of the prize, they were invited to travel to Nairobi, Kenya
to attend the Regional Network Roundtable for Africa on 6-7 May 2010,
with all expenses borne by ITC and Visuddha Piyathillake received a free
air ticket to participate in next Global Roundtable Network Meeting in
2011.
The story submitted by Miss Enosha Senavirathna, another ISMM & MLS
SCM Advanced Certificate student has also been recognised by ITC for
which she has been awarded a certificate of merit.
ISMM was also awarded a certificate by ITC in recognition of the
success of its students in the contest.
In the same contest conducted last year in Montreux, Geneva,
Switzerland at the Global Network Roundtable Meeting held on 22 - 24
April 2009, another ISMM MLS SCM diploma student Chandrakumara, Senior
Supplie's Manager of People's Bank was one of the seven winners and
travelled to Geneva with all expenses paid by ITC. During the event in
2009 Visuddha Piyathillake, Management Trainee at that time at the South
Asia Gateway Terminals (Pvt.) Ltd and I.G. Perera, Trainer ISMM and
Manager Corporate Quality & Compliance, Bodyline Pvt. Ltd have also been
recognised for their efforts and the great value of their achievements
in this competition and were offered to sit free of charge 6 examination
Modules in the MLS SCM diploma programme.
