Infotel 2010, Sept 30 - Oct 04
Infotel 2010 Sri Lanka's ICT Expo event themed 'IT's about growth'
will be held from September 30 to October 4 at BMICH. The event is
organised by the Federation of Information Technology Industry (FITIS).
A series of programs will also be organised parallel to Infotel 2010
during national ICT week. Chairman of Infotel Lanka Dr. Ruwan
Weerasinghe said that this year's Infotel will be unique. There will be
many new aspects introduced to stimulate and encourage participation
while enhancing the opportunity for sharing and transferring related to
use of ICT in growth and development of the economy. "The ICTer 2010
international ICT conference will be held in conjunction with Infotel
from September 29 to October 01. The National Best Quality Software
Award organised by British Computer Society Sri Lanka (BCS) will also be
held parallel to Infotel 2010, he said.
Dr.Weerasinghe said that Sri Lanka needs a truly national IT
workforce like Sri Lanka's cricket team. He pointed out that the Sri
Lankan cricket team was limited to cricketers coming from leading
Colombo schools prior to winning the world cup. However, after that
victory the situation changed and today there is a truly national team.
The ICT industry too needs talent, and talented Sri Lankans are spread
all over the country. Some IT companies tapped the talented. Infotel,
will provide opportunities to promote ICT islandwide.
The Sri Lankan IT industry has a big target of US$2 billion exports
by 2012. We need more IT workers as well as IT writers to boost the
industry as planned, Dr. Weerasinghe said.
"As Sri Lanka is poised for a new chapter of accelerated economic
growth, this year's Infotel theme 'IT's about growth' epitomises the
vital role of IT in building Sri Lanka's new economy", said FITIS
Chairman, Govind Nangrani.
Participants at Infotel 2010 will include high profile ICT decision
makers, CEOs, business and professional leaders, academia and tech savvy
individuals to high school and university students, ICT seekers and
