 Black Magic Woman Santana
Black Magic spell
Originally the song was written by Peter Green for the group
Fleetwood Mac which was released as a single in many countries in 1968.
But it was left to Santana who in 1970 gave it an arrangement of
Hungarian folk and Latin - jazz music and made it into a global hit.
The song was sung by Gregg Rolie his singer in the band, and the
single hit the charts in the States, Canada and England. Fleetwood Mac's
version was forgotten. Santana included the song in his Abraxas album
and ultimately Black Magic Woman became more associated with Santana
than with Fleetwood Mac.
According to the grapevine the original recording by Peter Green's
Fleetwood Mac featured guitars that were slightly below standard pitch.
Set in the key of D. minor, the verse follows a twelve bar chord
progression alternating between D. minor 7, A minor 7 and G. minor 7.
Now in the rock world of music Santana's Black Magic Woman is recognised
as a classic and a standard.
I got a Black Magic Woman
I got a Black Magic Woman
Yes, I got a Black Magic Woman
She's got me so blind I can't see
But she's a Black Magic Woman and
she's trying to make a devil out of me
Don't turn your back on me, baby
Don't turn your back on me, baby
Yes, don't turn your back on me, baby
Don't mess around with your tricks
Don't turn your back on me, baby
'Cause you might just wake up my magic sticks
You got your spell on me, baby
You got your spell on me, baby
Yes, you got your spell on me, baby
Turnin' my heart into stone
I need you so bad
Magic Woman I can't leave you alone
