Kingswood retains Blaze trophy

RUGBY: A stellar performance by Kingswood College in the second half
saw them stage a fine rally and inflict a crushing defeat by 42 points
(6 goals, 2 penalties) to 20 (1 goal, 2 tries, 1 penalty) win over
Wesley College to retain L.E. Blaze shield too in the schools under 19
Division One Segment 'A' Rugby Tournament match played at the Bogambara
Stadium, Kandy yesterday at half time Wesley led 15-14.
Kingwood College kept the scoreboard moving when their fly half
Lavaniya Perera.
Wesly reduced the lead in the 11th minute when scrum and skipper
Aquil Omar put over a penalty.
But Weslyites came back into the game fighting. Viraj Winsala scored
off a ruck which went unconverted.
Just before the short blast, the Wesley forwards took play deep
inside Kingswood territory which ended in skipper Aquil Omar scoring
under the post.
In the 3rd minute of the second half Kingswood College made their
intention clear when Mohamed Afsal dived over under the post. Oshan
Perera added the extra points.
Wesley made a brief come back in the 16th minute when their fly half
Achal Afthal went over for an unconverted try.
But from here onwards the Kignswoodians went on a rampage adding 21
points whilst conceding none.
The balance try scorers for Kignswood were Lavaniya Perera (1), Oshan
Perera (1), Chethiya Wadugodapitiya (1). Oshan Perera goalled 2 tries
and fullback Rajitha Sansoni added the extra points to the other.
