OBSERVER-MOBITEL award winners stand out in U. 19 team to England

CRICKET TOUR: OBSERVER-MOBITEL School cricket award winners figure
prominently in the Sri Lanka under 19 cricket team that will tour
England next week.
Chatura Peiris - the Peterite captain, was picked earlier as the Best
Captain at the 32nd OBSERVER-MOBITEL Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year
Contest 2010, will lead the well-knit Sri Lanka under 19 team for the
month long tour of England.
The Sri Lanka under 19 team will leave for the tour on July 14 and
will play two Youth "Tests", two Twenty 20 Internationals and five
One-Day Internationals against their counterparts.
A notable feature is that around 90 percent of the cricketers in the
tour party were winners of awards in the OBSERVER-MOBITEL Schoolboy
Cricketer Contest.
In the long list of award winners, Bhanuka Rajapakse - the OBSERVER-MOBITEL
Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year - the Royal captain, is a front-runner
in the tour party. Then Kithruwan Vithanage also of Royal College who
was Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year and the Best Batsman,
is the vice-captain of the team that is going to England. Chathuranga
Kumara of St. Joseph's College - Best Allrounder (All-Island), Rumesh
Buddhika of Mahinda College, runner-up Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year
and runner-up Best Batsman All-Island, Denuwan Rajakaruna of Mahinda
College - runner-up Best Fielder All-Island, Maduka Liyanapathirana of
Lumbini M.V. - runner-up Best Fielder All-Island, Angelo Jayasinghe of
Maris Stella College, Negombo - runner-up Best Batsman Outstation,
Kaushalya Gajasinghe of Mahinda College runner-up Best Allrounder
All-Island. Saranga Rajaguru of Nugawela Central - second runner-up in
OBSERVER-MOBITEL Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year
Outstation. Then Sanitha de Mel - the vice-captain of St.Sebastian's
College, Moratuwa is also in the touring party. St.Sebastian's College,
Moratuwa was the Best Team (All-Island). |
