The Naval intelligence team attached to SLNS Vijaya - Kalpitiya in the North Western Naval area on a tip off recovered a haul of conch shells last Wednesday. The haul consists about 500 conch shells, safety packed in sacks and hidden inside a scrub in Sinnagunduwa area of the Baththalangunduwa island in the Kalpitiya lagoon. The recovered items were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries (Puttalam) for further investigations.

Navy probes major human smuggling racket

Sri Lanka Navy intelligence operatives along with the police are conducting further investigations to bust a major human smuggling racket after they found that the five men arrested in the Marawila area in mid-August were involved in a part of a major racket which had been going on for many years.

LTTE’s main agent in arms network, a serious threat - Expert

International counter terrorism expert Shanaka Jayasekara said that Ponniah Anandarajah, the main agent of the LTTE’s arms network in the post-KP period, still poses a serious threat to Sri Lanka’s efforts in countering the LTTE’s international links.
