‘Sara Sihina’ launched
by Mahes Perera
It was a colourful extravaganza
the CD launch of Sara Sihina - The 5th Element. True to their flamboyant
tradition and their musical lifestyle BNS and the Sarigama Music crew
pulled all stops out to make it a memorable night for the fans who came
in their droves to experience it all. This was Bathiya N Santush’s fifth
CD release since Neththara which was launched in 2006.
The Sirimavo Bandaranaike Hall at the BMICH last week was transformed
magically to experience the backdrop of twinkling stars, colourful
bright lights and beams that criss crossed unceasingly. Bathiya and
Santhush did it differently. They moved in on stage and explained to the
audience that this album of theirs was a personal experience over the
past six years of their life which they reflected into their music.
The album ‘Sara Sihina’ they said proudly boasts of a range of Sri
Lanka’s top musical talent. Apart from Bathiya and Santhush composers on
the album were Sri Shyamalangan, Amila Fernando, Chaturanga de Silva,
Georgy de Silva, Yohan Rajapakse and Chrishan E. The lyrics of the songs
were written by Nilar N. Cassim, Wasantha Dukgannarala, Kelum Srimal,
Shehan Galahitiyawa and Duminda Alahendra.
The highlight of the launch and ofcourse on the album is the
appearance of three famous artistes Hariharan, Asha Bhosle and Rukantha
Gunathilake.
Hariharan is featured on the hip hop infused Yalpana-men which is now
a pop hit on radio and TV. Asha Bhosle’s Dedunna Sedi composed by Sri
Shyamalangan, and Rukantha Gunathilaka’s ‘Ma Handawala’ which has been
remade by BNS and also ‘Lovama Nidiyane Re’ which according to BNS is
soon to be a hit song.
The other well-known remake on the album is Nimal Mendis’ ‘Master
Sir’ given a BNS treatment which as they confessed is a childhood dream
fulfilled. Nimal Mendis who was present moved on stage to give Bathiya
and Santhush his blessings.
The launch commenced with BNS presenting CDs to their parents, wives,
members of their group including the musicians, special guests and all
the members of their establishments Saregama Music, Saregama Films and
Showtown Entertainment.
The audience was then treated to selections from ‘Sara Sihina’ which
were performed live, and with choreographed dancers to counter the many
comments that BNS don’t perform live, as expressed by Bathiya, was
exciting their performance. Their professionalism is on an extremely
high level and that night they took their whole concert to a fever high
pitch. When it all ended their fans were reluctant to head home.
