Project to build one million houses in January

A project to build one million houses will be launched in January 2011 on the directive of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The country will take the right measures to defeat the attempts of false propaganda being carried out by anti government elements which tried to separate the country, said Construction Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

He was addressing the recipients of financial assistance to build 519 houses worth Rs. 11 million.A cheque for Rs. 20,000 each was presented to 519 recipients under the final stage of the program. Among them were six disabled soldiers.

Weerawansa said that it was important for each person to have a house of his own. The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has launched a scheme to provide houses to the needy. The President's second term in office will usher a new era for the country.

NHDA Chairman Jayantha Samaraweera, S. Hapuarachchi, G.A. Kalutara and Gunapala Dissanayake also spoke.
