Waste Materials Exchange System launched
The National Waste Materials Exchange System 'WasteX' was launched
last week.
The 42-month project will cost Euro 1,588,538.42 and is funded by the
European Union, Industrial Technology Institute, The Ceylon Chamber of
Commerce, Megaskills Research Institute UK, Fraunhofer Institute Germany
and the Swedish Environmental Research Institute of Sweden.
The project facilitates the exchange of industrial waste among waste
generating organisations as well as between waste generating and waste
management organisations in Sri Lanka.
The project provides detailed information on industrial waste
materials available to enable viable waste collection, management, reuse
and recycling.
WasteX is an open source web based system and is developed by
Megaskills Research UK.
The SWITCH Asia program of the EU supports Asian countries to switch
to sustainable growth patterns to minimize the use of natural resources
and the emission of green house gases, waste and other pollutants.
The EU SWITCH Asia funded EEPEx project encourages export sector
enterprises to adopt environmentally sustainable practices and
technology.
The target sectors include ceramics, rubber, plastics, coconut
products, leather, footwear and hotels and supporting areas such as
service stations, construction and logistics. SG
