Teekawa
 Teekawa, a concert of folk music organised by Panapitiya Foundation
will be held at John de Silva Memorial Theatre on December 21 at
6.30p.m. It is a presentation by Gami Jana Gee Kandayama.
Like any other community Sinhalese also have their own distinct
culture and folk song and folk lore reveals fascinating facets of
Sinhalese culture. A salient feature of the concert is that it is
presented by the students of the University of Visual and Performing
Arts of the Department of Ethnomusicology which preserves unique
Sinhalese cultural and aural legacy of the nation. Among other things,
the concert also provides much -needed platform for students of the
University of Visual and Performing Arts. The students are not only
talented but also knowledgeable in the field of ethnomusicology in Sri
Lanka, preserving the unique cultural legacy to the posterity.
Ranliya Dahasak
Ranliya Dahasak, a solo concert by Miss.Vihangi Rajapaksa will be
held on December 20 at 6.30 p.m. and 7.30 p.m. at Ananda College main
hall in Maradana. The children's songs for the concert are composed by
Samanmalee Padmakumara. The show will be a novel experience for Sri
Lankan music lovers. The music for the concert is directed by Visharada
Manaj Pieris.
A special feature of the concert is that Miss. Vihangi will sing
three duets with Harris Wijesinghe, Dayan Vitharana and her father
Dr.Ravi Rajapaksa. Miss. Vihagi came into limelight with her maiden
story book "Tales from an Angle". Discovering her talents earlier on,
Samanmalee Padmakumara invited her to sing for the CD 'Kumalo-Leno'.
The Chamber Music Society of Colombo writes...
We, the Chamber Music Society of Colombo would like to gently clarify
a fact in reference to the excellent review by Ranga Chandraratne of our
last concert carried in the 5th December edition of “Montage”.
Not only have we performed twice in Cinnamon Gardens this year, but
also in Galle and a historic first concert in Jaffna. We thank you for
the ardent and much needed support you give to serious art in this
country. Ranga Chandrarathne unreservedly apologised for the mishap.
Purahanda Kaluwara Potha
Purahanda Kaluwara Potha , a 10th anniversary collection of writings
including the screenplays of the film “Purahanda Kaluwara ( Death on a
full moon day) , reviews, will be launched on December 23 at the
National Film Corperation Cinema.
Dr. Sunil Wijesiriwardene will deliver a lecture on “Art and the
State” and special screening of Purahanda Karuwara with English
subtitles will also be held. The programme commences at 6.00p.m. The
book is a Sarasavi publication.
