Appeal for Lankan expat in Bahrain
A Desperate appeal has gone out to help a Sri Lankan widow in
Bahrain, who is suffering from double kidney failure, undergo medical
treatment.
Fareeda Ummah Aliyar Lebbe was admitted to Salmaniya Medical Complex
(SMC) in October and diagnosed with kidney failure.
Her husband was killed in a devastating tsunami that hit the Indian
sub-continent seven years ago and she is the only breadwinner for her
three children. The 53-year-old came to the kingdom 10 years ago to work
for a Bahraini family.
She has been bedridden in the hospital for the past two months due to
kidney failure.
Her sponsor says he is unable to pay for the medical expenses, but
will allow her to travel back to her country.
Her brother Mohammed is working as a driver for a private company and
has been in Bahrain for 18 years. He is now appealing for help as he is
unable to pay for treatment either here or back home, which could cost
up to BD5,000. The Sri Lankan Muslim Community is backing the appeal and
trying to raise funds."She was admitted to SMC when her condition
deteriorated in October," said Mohammed. The community group has raised
BD100 for her, but are hoping people would donate more.
"Ms Lebbe belongs to a poor family and in desperate need for help,"
said a spokesman. Even if she goes back to Sri Lanka, she needs money
for treatment." To donate, contact Mohammed on +973 39833043.
