South Africa declare after Kallis double century
CENTURION, South Africa, Dec 18 (AFP) - Jacques Kallis reached his
first Test double century before South Africa declared their first
innings with a lead of 484 runs on the third day of the first Test
against India at SuperSport Park here on Saturday.
Kallis had 201 not out when South African captain Graeme Smith
declared with the total on 620 for four in reply to India’s 136.
The declaration came when AB de Villiers edged a loose drive against
Ishant Sharma and was caught behind for 129, made off 112 balls.
The lack of a double century was one of the few blots on Kallis?
career record. He was the only player in the top 15 all-time run-scorers
not to have achieved a double.
Kallis, fifth on the list, has hit 38 centuries.
