BASKETBALL: Gateway College, Colombo beat Asian International School
60-38 to win the Inter-International Schools Under 19 Girls Basketball
Tournament organized by the British School of Colombo.
This is Gateway’s second successive championship win for the season.
Gateway girls proved their strength in the international school
basketball arena when they dominated the all important final from the
start to the end. Gateway’s Tharanga Gunasekara was named the Most
Valuable Player of the Tournament while Pooja Dharmakirthi was chosen to
be the Best Offensive Player. Tharanga Gunasekara finished with 10
points and 10 steals. This marked her first double-double this season
and the third in her career.
Pooja Dharmakirthi scored 29 points with eight rebounds and four
assists.
Earlier in the tournament, Gateway beat Lyceum Nugegoda quite easily
with a margin of 49 -15 in the quarter finals and Elizabeth Moir school
by 34-04 in the semi-finals.
