A seminar on “Biotechnology Technique in Neuroscience and Drug
Discovery” will be held at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura on
January 17 from 9 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.
Dr. Ranil De Silva of the Dept of Anatomy, Faculty of Medical
Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura said the objective of
organising the seminar is to bring the academics, researchers and the
industry to work in close collaboration in the field of biotechnology
and drug discovery.
Prof. Ann Kato, Dept of Neuroscience, Faculty of Medicine, University
of Geneva, Switzerland and Prof. Gabor Kato, formerly of the Dept. of
Pharmacology, McGil University, Montreal, Canada and CEO of Neurotech,
Geneva, Switzerland will deliver talks on ‘Drug Discovery’, ‘How Modern
Medicines are Discovered’, ‘Receptor Binding Techniques’, ‘A Review of
Neurodegenerative Diseases and their Treatments’, ‘Demographic Changes
and their Implications on Ageing Research’.
Dr. De Silva said the seminar will be an another step in the
development of biomedical science and drug discovery in Sri Lanka and
bringing in closer dialogue between academics, researchers, students of
biomedical, biotechnology, pharmaceutical industry, universities,
research institutes and industries.
