All local bodies will be dissolved before January 10 and elections
will be held before March 30.
These decisions were taken at the UPFA Constituent political party
leaders' meeting presided over by President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple
Trees on Friday.
The allocation of seats for the constituent parties in local bodies
will be decided on by national and district level nomination boards
consisting of representatives from those parties. Local government and
Provincial Councils Minister A.L.M. Athaullah will soon issue the
special gazette notification dissolving all Municipal and Urban Councils
and Pradeshiya Sabhas.
SLFP General Secretary and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena said
on Wednesday that the SLFP was ready for the forthcoming Local
Government elections and would launch the campaign by calling upon the
prospective candidates to send in their applications before January 5.
