Mervyn J Cooray passes away

Former Minister Mervyn J. Cooray (74) passed away last evening at the Panadura Hospital after a brief illness.

He was the State Minister of Power and Energy in the J.R. Jayewardene administration of 1977. As MP for Panadura, he was instrumental in creating the Moderawila industrial city in Panadura.

He was also the President of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and a board member of the Asian Volleyball Confederation for a number of years. He is survived by his wife and two sons. Funeral arrangements will be notified later.
