The Sri Lankan middle order batsmen who were pushed up in the order
in the quest of gaining batting practice flourished yesterday, when
Thilan Samaraweera (60), Chamara Silva 54, Chamara Kapugedera (50 n.o)
made good use of the SSC pitch when the host won the toss and elected to
bat first.

No. 3 bat Thilan Samaraweera had an explosive 60 off 59
balls with one six and five fours. |
The Lankans went on to total an imposing 351 for 5 in their
stipulated 50 overs and dismissed their opponents for 195 in 47.3 overs
to record a 156 run win against Netherlands in a World Cup preparation
match.
Skipper Kumar Sangakkara and his deputy Mahela Jayawardene did not
bat, and paved the way for the middle order to get the needed exposure
prior to the all important World Cup. Sri Lanka will meet Canada in
their opener at Hambanatota on February 20.
Regular openers T.M. Dilshan (78) and Upul Tharanga (47) put on 117
runs for the first wicket. Left-hander Tharanga faced 54 deliveries and
struck seven fours and Dilshan's innings included 12 fours off 78
deliveries.
Samaraweera batting at number three retired after scoring 60 off 59
deliveries which contained five fours and a six.
Netherlands in their turn were dismissed for 195 in 47.3 overs. Tom
de Groot top scored for the visitors with a determined 76 and Bas
Zuiderent (38) were the chief scorers.
