Mallika needs sponsors for World Masters Athletic C'ships July 6 to
17
ATHLETICS: Mallika Satchithananda - a veteran among the women
athletes in the country, has been selected to represent Sri Lanka in the
World Masters Athletics Championships to be held in California, USA from
6th to 17th July 2011.

The Championships will be held in Sacremento, California, which is
400 kilometres from Los Angeles Airport.
Mallika has participated in many meets abroad. Sri Lanka commenced
participation in International Veteran and Masters Athletics
Championships in 1985.
At the third Asian Veteran Athletic Championships held in Singapore
in 1985, Mallika participated in 5 events and won gold medals in all 5
events and established new Asian Records in all of them.
Mallika's Asian Masters records in 400 metres established in 1994 in
Jakarta and record in 500 KM walk established in 2006 in India, still
stands to her credit.
She has participated in all Asian countries and European countries
such as Canada, Australia, Tasmania, Italy, Denmark, Japan, Korea,
Malaysia, Taiwan, Italy, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and
India.
The meets that Mallika has participated in includes International
Championships, Asian Championships, World Veteran Championships,
Australian Masters Games and World Masters Games.
At the 16th Asian Masters Athletics Championships held in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia from December 6 to 13 last year, she won 3 golds, 1
silver and 3 bronze medals.
At the World Masters Athletic Championships in California for which
she intends going, she has been entered for four events and is confident
that she will be among the medal winners.
The cost is high and she is urgently looking out for sponsors. All
selected athletes who wish to participate in the Masters Athletic
Championships must confirm in writing before February 11th 2011 to the
President/Secretary, Sri Lanka Masters Athletics. The closing date for
entries with the organisers is 24th April 2011 hence all local entries
close on March 31st 2011 with President, Sri Lanka Masters Athletics.
