JASTECA sponsors Japanese training for staffers
The first round of audits of the annual 5S competition will be
completed by the end of this month said JASTECA President Mahinda
Saranapala.
He said that once the first round is completed they would select the
best 15-20 companies from 97 companies who have applied for the awards.
The second round of audits will be conducted by Prof Fujita from Waseda
University Japan.
JASTECA was set up in February 1984 as an alumni of the Association
for Overseas Technical Scholarship (AOTS) Japan. The objective is to
service the returnee trainees of AOTS. The association is engaged in
many activities relating to human resource development and transferring
of Japanese technical and managerial skills through lectures, seminars
and programs conducted in Japan and Sri Lanka.
"We have already sent 200 persons under a self-funded program to
Japan for training.
The JASTECA Institute of Management has trained 90 people in TPM. In
addition, JASTECA sends people to Japan for training in Green tea. He
said that many companies are trying to grow green tea but they should
know the process which is very important. Therefore we decided to send
people for training to Japan. Already we have sent two teams, each team
comprising 15 people.
JASTECA maintains a ward at the cancer hospital in memory of Madam
Reiko Yamamoto and provides scholarships under the Madam Kioko Ogawa
Scholarship Fund for children who pass the Ordinary Level examination to
pursue higher studies. This year we will provide 30 scholarships to
children from Batticaloa.
