Ninja to create uniformity in products
Ninja’s new marketing campaign aims to create uniformity across all
its products making it more convenient to its consumers.
Ninja Mosquito Coils began its operations in 1997 by importing coils
from Indonesia. The company took a strategic decision in 2002 to focus
on quality by manufacturing locally which contributed immensely to its
success. Chemicals produced by Sumimoto Chemicals, Japan, a world leader
in chemical technology, are exclusively used in the production of Ninja
Mosquito Coils.
The state of the art factory operated by Ninja is located in Millawa
in Kalutara District, providing direct employment to 120 people in the
area and indirect employment to many more who assists them in the
collection of raw material such as coconut shells and wood powder used
in production.
CEO Home Care, Darley Butler & Co Ltd Sanjeewa Gunawardena said “The
production of mosquito coils requires high usage of diesel to dry the
coil. Not only is this method expensive but is also a drain on our
foreign exchange. We made an investment of Rs. 25-30 million on
machinery to convert the diesel powered drying system to fuel wood - a
bio mass system. The investment has made us more efficient and allows us
to act as an environmentally friendly organisation recycling waste.”
The fuel wood drying system requires wood powder and wood shavings to
function which Ninja collects from different parts of the country,
reducing overall cost involved in production, but more importantly
providing a solution to the environmental issue caused by the unplanned
disposal systems of the material.
Ninja spearheaded a campaign collecting coconut shells, which is one
of the main breeding points for the dengue mosquito. In the area of
Maligawatte alone three tonnes of coconut shells were collected in one
day. The coconut shells are used by Ninja in production.
Ninja recently signed up with the Colombo University to develop the
home care category. “The most commonly used mosquito control mechanism
in the Asian region is the coil, but this is soon to be changed and when
that change happens Ninja will lead the industry” said Gunawardena.
