CRICKET: Junior school cricketers in Matara have a difficult time in playing their cricket matches for want of a suitable grounds, cricketers from Devinuwara MMV and schools in Matara use the Devinuwara Pradeshiya Sabha grounds for their junior cricket matches as an alternative to the Jayasuriya Grounds, Matara.

The pavilion at the Pradeshiya Sabha grounds is in a deplorable condition. The Pradeshiya Sabha gave this ground for the fair held during the annual feast of Devinuwara Maha Vishnu Dewalaya and it was not cleaned up after that.

At last year's fair, it is reported that a income of approximately rupees seven million was made. The authorities in the schools say that the Pradeshiya Sabha authorities can maintain the grounds with the funds they get from the fair.
