A Puerto Rican in Sri Lanka
Watercolor and Woodcut Prints by Rashid Abdur -Rahman will be held
from March 4 to 18 at Casa Serena Gallery & Boutique at 122, Havelock
Road, Colombo 5.
Rashid Abdur -Rahman is a first generation Puerto Rican. Born in New
York, he lives in Puerto Rica and Sri Lanka. He took his first step in
art at New York’s celebrated Music and Art High School in Manhattan.
Jaffna Music Festival:
A celebration of traditional folk art forms
Jaffna Music Festival sponsored by Sewalanka Foundation together with
Concerts Norway and Norwegian Embassy will be held in Jaffna from March
25 - 27. The Festival will unfold in a folk-village camp setting, where
different artistes, both local and international, will lead simultaneous
performances on 3-4 stages from Friday to Sunday 10am to 3pm followed by
a main stage performance from 4 pm - 10 pm daily.
Festival will bring together an assortment of traditional folk music
and dance performances from across the island, representing all ethnic
groups. With a combination of folk, fusion folk and traditional music,
the festival will present an exciting line up of 23 Sri Lankan and five
international folk groups from India, Nepal, Palestine, South Africa and
Norway.
'Pe Daya' art
Peliyagoda Dayananda will hold his solo art exhibition entitled 'Pe
Daya' at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery, Colombo 7 from March 4 to 6. The
paintings include oil on canvas, acrylic and water colours.
Ragas from New York on Rupavahini
“Ragas from New York”, the classical Indian Music concert by sitarist
Pradeep Ratnayake and tablist from New York, Nitin Mitta which was held
at the Lionel Wendt Theatre in January 2011 will be telecast on the
Rupavahini channel on Wednesday March 2 at 10. 05 p.m. Prasanna
Hettiarachchi directed the program under the guidance of the Director of
Music at Rupavahini Corporation, Ajith Jayaweera.
Pradeep Ratnayake and Nitin Mitta have previously performed at Weil
Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall, New York; The Corcoran Gallery of Art,
Washington DC and the Markham Theatre of Performing Arts, Canada.
Public lecture on Japanese gardens
The embassy of Japan together with the Sri Lanka Bonsai Association
and BMICH has organised a lecture on Japanese gardens by Dr. Eijiro
Fujii, Chief Professor of Landscape Management, University of Chiba,
Japan at the "Mihilaka Medura", BMICH, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7,
on Monday, February 28 at 3 p.m.
Women sharing life...
A combined photography exhibition by French Diplomat/amateur
photographer Christine Robichon and Anoma Rajakaruna Sri Lanka filmmaker
photographer will be held from March 4 to 25 to coincide with the
International Women's Day (March 8) and the International Day on Water
(March 22). The exhibition will be held at the Alliance Francaise de
Kotte, 139 Jawatte Road, Colombo 5. The two photographers invite you to
share their vision of water, water bearers and water containers in Sri
Lanka and Sudan.
Women Artists’ Colloquium Exhibition
Women Artits colloquium exhibition opened on February 19 will
conclude tomorrow at Theertha Red Dot Gallery, 36 A, Baddegana Road
South, Pitakotte.
Stanley Kirinde Memorial exhibition
A memorial exhibition of paintings will be held at the Gallery Mount
Castle, Colombo 7 today at 5 p.m. to mark the second death anniversary
of Deshabandu Stanley Kirinde.
The exhibition will remain open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. till February
28.
Balloth Ekka Be at Elphinstone
Two special shows of the hilarious comedy Balloth Ekka Be, written
and directed by Ravindra Ariyarathna, will be staged at the Maradana
Elphinstone Theatre on March 4 at 3.30 p.m. and 6.45 p.m.
