CRICKET: Good batting and penetrative bowling by St. Thomas' College,
Matara helped them to beat Siri Piyarathna College, Padukka by an
innings and 274 runs in their under 19 division II cricket tournament
match played at Padukka.

Siri Piyarathna College made 197 runs in their first innings and 129
runs in their second turn, while a sixth-wicket partnership of 325 runs
between Ashan Ranasinghe (201 not out) and Ishan Abeydeera (181) helped
St. Thomas' College to make 600 for 8 wickets declared in their first
innings. The St. Thomas' batsmen Ashan Ranasinghe had 23 fours and a six
in his unbeaten double-century knock while Abeydeera's knock had 24
fours and two sixes. Then Jayanga de Silva who made 111 runs made those
runs in 60 balls and with Ashan Ranasinghe put on 136 runs for the
seventh wicket.
For Ashan Dinura Ranasinghe of St. Thomas' Matara it was a memorable
match. Besides his unbeaten double-century knock, he was in the thick of
the bowling too and grabbed 5 for 69 in Siri Piyarathna's total of 197
in the first innings and 5 for 55 in the second innings to have a
wonderful match. There was also Mohamed Ismath who bowled well for St.
Thomas' in the second innings to take 5 for 47.
