Russian assistance for flood victims
A special IL 76 flight of the Russian Ministry of Civil Defence,
Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters of the
Russian Federation carrying a consignment of humanitarian assistance for
the flood victims arrived few days ago.
The goods to the value of Rupees 45 million included food, tents and
electricity generators.
This is not the first time Russian has assisted Sri Lanka. One might
recall that the Russian government came to Sri Lanka's assistance in
providing relief to the people who suffered during the brutal
consequence of the LTTE terrorists, during the 2009 humanitarian
operations of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation along with
generous contributions from the Sri Lankan community in Moscow arranged
for 2200 packs of dry food rations worth Rupees 2 million.
The goods were distributed among the flood affected persons under
special supervision of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian
Federation, Udayanga Weeratunga.
